Vascular Access

Medical Imaging Club will be practicing FAST exams and ultrasound-assisted venous access. We have brand-new ultrasound machines and models to practice with, as well as experienced trainers to teach these essential ED skills. Ultrasound is a growing field in all aspects of medical care, so we hope to see you there!

Bleeding Control

Students will learn how to triage and treat hemorrhage type injuries common in trauma situations. Students will be taught how to properly apply the Combat Application Tourniquet and Hemostatic dressings. Practice on realistic moulage and hone your trauma skills!

Wilderness Survival

Explore the world of wilderness medicine, learning how to provide care in remote locations. We will cover basic splint making, life-saving knots, hypothermia wraps, and more to prepare you for emergencies that you may encounter in the wilderness.

Ankle Taping and Concussion Management

Imagine what it must be like on the NFL sidelines as a clinician and having to tape someone's ankle who is 250+ pounds and legs the size of a tree trunk! What would you do if this player collided head-on with another and may be suspected of a very serious concussion? Find out! There will be 2 stations: ankle taping and concussion safety. We will start with a demonstration of ankle taping for the whole group. Participants will practice taping an ankle on a partner. Concussions: we will be showing a short video clip of what happens to the brain during concussions and then practice some simple on-the-field tests that are used to check for concussion symptoms.

Lumbar Puncture and Intraosseous Line Placement

Pediatric Club and SIGN are co-hosting a Lumbar Puncture and Interosseous Access Workshop. Students will have the chance to learn how to perform a lumbar puncture on a pediatric model and how to place an interaosseous line using chicken legs

Suturing

Suturing clinic is an opportunity for first timers to learn the basics of suturing and for professionals to enhance their skills! Come practice suturing on skin flaps where you will get helpful tips and tricks from 4th year COM student Geoff Luecker.

Intubation

The Anesthesiology Club presents an in-depth look at effective airway management techniques used in emergency settings. We will be focusing on airway anatomy and using cadavers to learn effective skills promoting patient safety.

Precepted by Dr. Bruce Cullen, professor emeritus at UW, editor of Clinical Anesthesia and former president of the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
